QuickBase floor the crowd at Interbuild

News Image 4

QuickBase, the revolutionary modular conservatory base system, was unveiled to universal applause at Interbuild ’08, where it caught the attention of retrofit and new-build operators alike.

The system had won Interbuild’s Best New-Build Product award when it was previewed in prototype form at last year’s show. Now after extensive field trials, it is being launched to the market and already aroused interest from all quarters at the five-day event.

“Conservatory manufacturers and installers showed a lot of interest,” said QuickBase’s Jonathan Thomas.

“But it also caught the eye of many housebuilders. The ordinary conservatory base has hardly changed for decades so they immediately saw the benefits of such an innovation.

“We have several firm orders directly from the show and many more contacts to follow up.”

QuickBase is up to three times quicker to install than a conventional base and can be put down in almost any weather. It is completely modular, needs no wet mixing and the resulting floor has far better heat retention than concrete. On other environmental issues, its beams and fittings include recycled plastics, it uses less mineral resources, creates less landfill and its usual one-day completion can bring significant vehicle fuel savings.

It is the only pile-based modular system to be considered insurable by a major UK-based underwriter.

QuickBase will install the system on request but also offers training for bigger companies with their own installation teams.

QuickBase saves energy and more for conservatories

News Image 1

QuickBase Foundations is claiming significant environmental benefits, including vastly improved heat retention, from a new modular conservatory base system to be unveiled at Interbuild.
The system won Interbuild’s Best New-Build Product award when it was previewed in prototype form at last year’s show and is now being launched fully to the market after extensive field trials and technical refinements.

As well as its insulation properties, QuickBase is up to three times quicker to install than an ordinary concrete base, it is partly made of recycled plastic, requires less mineral resources and creates less landfill.

“These benefits also bring significant cost-savings to the installer,” said Jonathan Thomas of QuickBase Foundations.
“So we can expect the appeal to be far wider than the environmental community.”

The key to the system is its use of helical piling instead of deep digging for foundations and, because it involves no wet-mixed materials, it can be put down in almost any weather. It is also the only pile-based modular system to be considered insurable by a UK based underwriter. QuickBase Foundations will install the system on request but also offers training for bigger companies with their own installation teams.

RADICAL NEW CONSERVATORY FOUNDATION SYSTEM TO BE LAUNCHED AT INTERBUILD

Stand C125, Hall 5
Interbuild, 26th – 30th October 2008, NEC Birmingham.

Following the successful prototyping and subsequent field trials of the new foundation system for conservatories and lightweight structures; it is to be launched at this year’s Interbuild exhibition in October, under the QuickBase brand. The original prototype version won Best New Build Product at last years Interbuild exhibition. The system is designed by Shire Consulting, manufactured and distributed by QuickBase Foundation Systems, part of the Wykamol Group.

The new system promises to solve a series of problems that have plagued the conservatory industry for many years. For example, bad weather often means that the delays associated with laying a conventional base reduces the number of conservatories a company can undertake and, as a result, adversely impacts on cash flow by having large amounts of labour and materials stood idle as work in progress.

QuickBase foundations can be built in one day, rather than the 3 to 4 days (weather permitting) required for digging out deep foundations

QuickBase is the first modular pile base system to be considered insurable by a UK based underwriter. Designed and manufactured by Shire Structures, part of the Wykamol Group. The new system promises the highest quality construction with significant environmental and technical benefits, as well as major cost and time savings on traditional methods.

In operation the system comprises Shire’s helical screw piles, on which sit lightweight, partly-recycled plastic beams connected via a series of push-fit joints to form a frame.

The frame carries the load of the building through the piles to suitable bearing strata, uniquely removing the need for mass concrete foundations. QuickBase can be fitted with a lightweight, pre-manufactured, damp proof floor slab onto which the inner wall of the conservatory is built. Other types of modular buildings could also be fitted onto the frame.

As the system is based on proven piling technology, it now means that any conservatory company can simply contact QuickBase with their conservatory design to receive a quotation and should the project proceed QuickBase will arrange for the base to be laid within 24 hours, ready for the brickwork to begin. For larger companies with their own construction teams, training on how to install the base can be arranged; allowing them to carry out the complete project. The QuickBase system is suitable for new build or retro fit properties.

Commented Jonathan Thomas, director in charge of QuickBase:

“QuickBase tackles building control irregularities in conservatory design head-on.

For the first time there is a base system designed to provide a trouble free, highly stable solution for today’s more demanding conservatory market. The system will meet the requirements of any changes in building regulations in the foreseeable future.”

Clean and quick construction will make the system attractive to homeowners as well as installers. Minimising site excavation work, it also avoids inconvenient mess and spoil. Only topsoil needs to be removed with QuickBase, making the new product ideal for houses with limited access.

The current preoccupation with environmental impact is another benefit of the QuickBase system. Being almost entirely made from recycled materials, the product saves vast amounts of waste that would otherwise be going into landfill sites.

QuickBase is the only solution that can be installed by any builder, provides guaranteed, high quality, non-corrosive foundations, gives complete peace of mind to the homeowner and commercial benefits to the installer.”

Information for editor

Shire Structures and its sister company Shire Consulting combine the expertise of specialist structural building contractors and structural/civil engineering designers with a track record of designing construction projects up to £25million in value.

Shire Structures’ first designed product was the Shire Stabiliser, for the support of subsidence damaged buildings. Shire Stabilisers are widely specified throughout the UK and are now the most popular small diameter pile used for building repairs.

Shire Piles are a development of this and are used for the support of a new build construction. The piles have been used to support garages, conservatories and extensions, and are now used as the helical pile in the QuickBase modular foundation.
